ONE ROOM CHALLENGE: WEEK 3 – WALL PREP AND VINTAGE TREASURES

WALL PREP

On this week’s episode of the One Week Challenge, we finally got our hands dirty! As I mentioned in last week’s post, the walls have a very rough texture. This is most likely from old wall paper adhesive and years of paint so we have to do quite a bit of wall prep. We had done just over half of the skim-coating last fall before the project went to the back burner.

This past weekend, I tackled the rest of it and can now check the first of the wall prep off the list! Prep is so soo important to get a good paint outcome…..a fact I had to remind myself a few times during the skim coating this weekend. It’s a messy job for sure. But now that it’s done, I’m proud of how far I’ve come and for learning a new skill. Just look at it!

The process went much more smoothly this time around. Last fall we used powdered drywall mud and mixed it ourselves. It set up super quickly. After applying every bucket, we had to wash out the bucket and tools so it didn’t set up on us. This time around, I used pre-mixed drywall mud and just mixed in water to get the consistency I needed. This method worked much better!

VINTAGE TREASURES

Another exciting development happened this weekend; after months and months of searching and trying to find the perfect chest, we finally stumbled on it at an estate sale this weekend. I hadn’t even planned on going to it. We happened to pass an estate sale sign on the way to Lowe’s; on the way to that estate sale, we saw yet another sign and made another unplanned stop. Boy was it worth it, because I finally found THE ONE.

Isn’t she a beauty?! I will be updating the hardware, but that’s all I will be doing to her. Overall I would say it was a pretty successful week on the entryway transformation!

Be sure to check out all the other amazing projects and what they accomplished this week.

Xoxo,

Amanda
