It’s been awhile, but I’m back with some exciting news! Over the next eight weeks, I will be participating as a guest for the first time in the One Room Challenge. I first posted about the space I plan on transforming in November, 2019 *gasp* shortly after I closed on my first home. Between my career and other smaller projects around the house, the entryway fell to the back burner. I work well with deadlines, and this is the first space I dreamed about transforming when I first moved into my home so I figured what better project to tackle for the One Room Challenge!
Thank you to the One Room Challenge Team for hosting such an amazing event. You can check out and follow all the other transformations here.
THE VISION
I decided to bring my design to life on paper first with a hand rendering
THE BEFORE
My home was built in 1980 during which time, homes commonly had built-in planters. Natural light floods the space: sidelights on either side of the front door, full sliding glass door opposite leading onto the patio, and skylights above.
My immediate thoughts on the entryway upon move-in: bring in the outdoors and create a seamless tie-in to the wonderful outdoor space of the patio. With all the natural light in the entryway, it just begged for rich-green walls with wood accents. The built-in planter will not demo but instead will transform into an entryway table which will continue to direct the flow either around to the patio or off one direction to the common areas or off in the opposite direction to the back of house areas.
Eventually, painted tongue and groove will cover the stippled ceiling; however, wood prices are nearly 300% higher than this time last year. I’ll tackle this at a later date after the One Room Challenge ends, assuming wood prices don’t come down that quickly. For the initial facelift, I will just be painting the ceiling.
I am so excited to focus on this DIY and finally bring my design to life during the next 8 weeks! Grab a coffee and find a comfy seat to follow along with the transformation.
Xoxo,
Amanda
