ONE ROOM CHALLENGE: WEEK 7 – GREEN WITH ENVY

The long awaited day is here!!! We finally have the final paint color on the walls……ahhh this color is the heart of the entire design. I am finally seeing my design come to life in front of my eyes and it is EVERYTHING I dreamed it would be. We are one coat complete on the color with I think only one more coat to go.

I have dreamed of this day for a looong time……I first revealed my wall color on my mood board in July of 2019. Sometimes I have to remind myself I work full time and give myself some grace on my project timelines. When I type that date out…..umph….we’ll just leave it at that. Ready to see?!!

If this is your first time on the blog -welcome! My name is Amanda, and I am a full time construction project manager, and spend my “spare” time building and designing as the creator of Steel Toed Stilettos. I am participating for the first time as a guest in the One Room Challenge as we completely transform our entryway. You can check out all the other amazing spaces and find your favorites to follow along with.

WHAT ELSE WE ARE WORKING ON

In between taping, painting, and caulking, I have also been creating my very own luxury curtain rod. I had a very specific look in mind for the curtain rod and trying to source what I wanted would have been waaay out of budget so I decided to make my own. The rod is a 1 1/4″ poplar closet rod which I picked up for about $25 from Lowes. I have sanded and stained it using the Minwax Polyshade stain and lemme just say…it’s beautiful – don’t you agree? I purchased unfinished wood brackets which I will stain to match. The rod will be completed with brass end caps.

ART

Here are a couple of the art selections for the space. The blue heron is a watercolor painting that I painted a few years ago. The cypress is a watercolor I purchased at the Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival from Keith Andry. I have one final statement painting I painted last year specifically for this space, but I’m holding that one until the final reveal.

CONFESSIONS

Ok, so lots happening and lots of good news and scrambling this week to get everything done. But I do have to share some bad news. The walnut and epoxy table top will not be complete for the final reveal. I’m slightly heartbroken…..okay majorly heartbroken. Buuut I am having some hurdles to figure out with the moisture content of my wood and how that will affect the epoxy pour. I want it done right for a table top that will last us for years to come. There are a lot of steps to epoxy pours, and this is my first one. I would hate to ruin the beautiful walnut we have by rushing it, and again…that career thing doesn’t give me much time.

The other item that will not be installed in time is the shutter blinds. These have a long lead time and just simply won’t be here in time.

And lastly the custom bench cushion does not appear by it’s current shipping status that it is going to make it in time either.

Ok, there it’s off my chest. No fear though, I will still give you grand reveal next week. I think you are going to be amazing at just how transformed this space is. I know I am already.

So if you want to catch the live play-by-play of me freaking out on a daily basis trying to finish, make sure you follow us on Instagram to catch when I post stories. So hold on, enjoy the ride, and we’ll see you back next week….oh, and bring the popcorn.

Xoxo,

Amanda
